About Us

Message from the Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lau Siong Hoe

The Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FIST) is one of the major academic units in the university. It is aims to be a trendsetter in information and communication technology (ICT) education and research. As a provider of world-class education, the FIST offers innovative and rigorous academic programs with strong integration of theory and practice components taught by renowned faculty to produce quality, innovative and inspired graduates who are able to meet rigorous demands of the fast-growing knowledge-based industry.

Besides state-of-the-art facilities, the faculty is staffed by dedicated and supportive staff with relevant expertise and working experiences to support academic programs and to spearhead innovative and meaningful research at faculty and university levels. Three research centres, Centre for Information Security, Centre for Ubiquitous Computing and Communication, and Intelligent Cloud Computing have been set up to promote and coordinate research that is relevant to the faculty’s and university’s strategic interests. All the members in the centre are challenging to create new scientific realms in addition to yielding continuously fruitful achievements in their particular fields.

The faculty prepares students for future success, not only in our programs and majors, but also in other vendor-specific professional programs through Cisco Networking Academy, Microsoft IT Academy, Oracle Workforce Development Program, Novell Academic Training Partner, Linux Professional Institute and EC-Council. We’ve established strong partnerships and relationships with these industries that provide an engaged environment where students have the opportunity to take up these additional industrial certified courses to equip themselves with cutting edge competencies.

I take this chance to express the faculty’s commitment and readiness to offer the best of our academic, administrative services and assistance whenever needed via online services and face-to-face consultation to develop your personal and knowledge developments for your future success.

When you see a man of worth, think of how you may emulate him.

When you see one who is unworthy, examine yourself.”

    eGenting Programming Competition

    8 November 2014

eGenting Programming Competition is a yearly programming competition since 2002.
The initial objective of this event is to look for a new batch of programmers.
However, it has become a competition that brings programmers from all the universities and colleges in Malaysia.

According to Mr. Searcy, the senior vice-president of eGenting Sdn. Bhd.: “The contest is more like a programming audition or a competitive examination” (H. Amir Khalid, 2002). This event is internally administered by eGenting.

The most challenge part is each participant needs to write their programs on papers instead of using computer.
eGenting perceived the effort to fix a syntax error is very small compared to the effort required to fix bad program logic.
That is why the programming competition is paper based rather than computer based.

In the eGenting Programming Competition 2014, a total of 243 participants have registered to join the competition.
However, only 131 attended the competition and 124 participants submitted their answer.

Among hundred over participants, two students from FIST won the second and third prizes!!!
Mundher Ahmed Saleh Al-Shabi managed to won 2nd prize and Tan Shi Huai won the 3rd prize.

    Congratulation!
