The three-year programme in the faculty of Science and Technology emphasises on the functions and management of security technology in the protection of assets; supported by the appropriate studies in cyber law and ethics. The programme will educate students with the necessary theories and applied knowledge in the development, deployment and management of security in public and private sectors.

Students will initially be exposed to the core components of IT such as Computer Architecture and Organisation, Data Communications and Networking, Computer Programming, Object Oriented Programming, Data Structures and Algorithms, Discrete Mathematics and Probability, Database Systems, Systems Analysis and Design, Mathematical Techniques and Operating Systems.
Once the fundamentals are made concrete, students will later on engage in specialisation subjects such as:

    • Digital Forensics
    • Ethical Hacking and Security Assessment
    • Information Assurance and Security
    • Malware and Intrusion Detection
    • Password Authentication and Biometrics

    • Web Techniques and Applications

 

As for the electives, the programme offers students with options such as Cloud Computing, Cyber Law on E-commerce, Information Systems Audit, Data Mining and Machine Learning Systems, Network Security and Management, Pattern Recognition, Physical Security, TCP IP Programming, Mobile and Wireless Communications as well as Digital Watermarking.
And to further assist in preparing themselves for a career in the security industry, the programme takes its students into an industrial training experience to engage them with the real working environment of their chosen industry. The programme is designed to develop knowledge and skills necessary for employment in areas such as government and corporate security, financial institutions and major security organisations, strategic facilities security as well as private sector and retail security. Potential career prospects awaiting our graduates include Security Auditors, Security Penetration Testers, Computer Forensic Investigators, Software Engineers, Systems Analysts and Programmers.

Entry Requirements

Either of the following:
    • Pass Foundation  in related field from a recognised institution, and a credit in Mathematics at O Level or its equivalent
    • Pass A Level or its equivalent with 3 principals inclusive of Mathematics and a credit in Mathematics at O Level or its equivalent
    • Pass Diploma in a related field from a recognised institution with minimum CGPA 2.50 and a credit in Mathematics at O Level or its equivalent
    • Pass any other Diploma in science and technology or business studies from recognized institution with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and a credit in Mathematics at O Level or its equivalent may be admitted subject to a rigorous internal assessment process.

AND

    • A minimum score of 5.5 for IELTS or its equivalent

Note: *Candidates with CGPA below 2.50 but above 2.00 may be admitted subject to a rigorous internal assessment process.

Either of the following:
  • Pass Foundation / Matriculation in related field from a recognised institution, and a credit in Mathematics at SPM level or its equivalent
  • Pass STPM / A Level or its equivalent with 3 principals inclusive of Mathematics and a credit in Mathematics at SPM Level or its equivalent
  • Pass UEC with minimum of grade B in a least five (5) subjects inclusive of Mathematics and English
  • Pass Diploma in a related field from a recognised institution with minimum CGPA 2.50 and a credit in Mathematics at SPM Level or its equivalent
  • Pass any other Diploma in science and technology or business studies from recognized institution with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and a credit in Mathematics at SPM Level or its equivalent may be admitted subject to a rigorous internal assessment process.
