NAJIB TUN ABDUL RAZAK During his leadership as the Minister of Education (1995-1999), YAB Dato' Sri Mohd. Najib Tun Abdul Razak has carved a new significant milestone in the national education development plans and programs to synergise the Malaysian education system. Among these significant accomplishments is the visionary move to allow the setting up of private universities in the country. Following that, Telekom Malaysia was invited by the Ministry of Education to set up a private university, which was approved by YAB Dato' Sri Mohd. Najib. That university now is the largest private university in Malaysia. Multimedia University, which was formerly known as Universiti Telekom (Unitele), is a direct realisation of the strategic plan implemented by YAB Dato' Sri Mohd. Najib. Over the past 9 years, the private education sector has grown. At the tremendous rate and has contributed significantly to the nation knowledge capital, human resource training and development. The visionary implementation has also put in place a platform for Malaysia to emerge as a Center of Education Excellence in the Higher Education sector throughout the world, which contributes greatly to the nation's rapidly growing export of educational services and related fileds. It is without doubt that the foresight of YAB Dato' Sri Mohd. Najib has not only made on outstanding contribution to MMU's mission and its objectives, but has also benefited the country tremendously. |

7th CONVOCATIONHonorary Doctor of Science (Hon.D.Sc) Senate Date : 1 June 2006 Convo Date : 12 August 2006 Tan Sri Dato' Dr. Mohd Rashdan Haji Baba Across his life, Mohd. Rashdan was a student leader, an academic, a government officer, a principal, vice-chancellor, chairman and farther, But above all, he was an educator. Even in his youth, he established a reputation for having one of the best minds and strongest will in the country and became the first Vice-Chancellor of both Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Pertanian Malaysia, where his dedication brought tremendous growth to both tertiary education and the expertise in the field of science. In his capacity as Executive Chairman for the Guthrie Group and Telekom Malaysia Berhad, his vision and ambition resulted in outstanding infrastructural and market development for both these companies, in their own ways, prime players in the nation's economy. Yet, in his corporate capacity, he continued to open doors for younger Malaysians to receive training and scholarships to further their knowledge and skill base. It was during his time at Telekom Malaysia that the first seeds of Malaysia's first private university began. This university is now known as Multimedia University, a thriving ICT university of 21000 students and 1500 staff. Rashdan's foresight has significantly aided the nation's drive towards the K-economy, especially in the field of modern technology, It is doubtless , that his service has not only contributed to Multimedia University's goals and objectives but also served and benefited the country tremendously - be it as a catalyst for education or as a patriotic leader in academia and business. |
