From MEGAWATTS to NEGAWATTS: Encountering Energy Issues in Malaysia

The Multimedia University Engineering Society Overseas Research Programme (MESCORP) 2007/2008 or better known as MESCORP 2007/2008, is one of the most prestigious undergraduate organisations of Multimedia University (Cyberjaya). This event is organized under the direct supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Lee Sze Wei, Dean of Faculty of Engineering; along with YABhg. Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Haji Mohd Ali as the Patron of this research programme.

The MESCORP 2007/2008 is the sixth sequel of this programme following the successful execution of the previous MESCORP teams. The research title for this year is, “From MEGAWATTS to NEGAWATTS: Encountering Energy Issues in Malaysia ”. The research’s main focus is on energy issues especially energy savings and alternative energy development as these two areas are essential to ensure a sustainable energy future for the nation.

The team recently completed its research in Malaysia , Australia and Thailand and will be disseminating its findings in the MESCORP Conference & Exhibition 2007/2008 which will be held on the 16 th of July 2008 in the Multipurpose Hall of Multimedia University, Cyberjaya. Among main highlights of the conference will be the research presentation by the MESCORP 2007/2008 Team, various talks by officials from the Ministry of Energy, Water and Communication, Pusat Tenaga Malaysia, Malaysian Nuclear Agency, Malaysian Institute of Economic Research, the private sector, institutions of higher learning and also a main forum involving representatives from all sectors.

This project is supported by TM Bhd which is the main sponsor and Air Asia is the official airline. The Energy Commission of Malaysia, Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET), Malaysia Chapter and Pusat Tenaga Malaysia (PTM) are the official supporting bodies of MESCORP 2007/2008.
