MMU Bags Gold and Silver Medals at ITEX ‘08

At the recent 19 th International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX 08) held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre between the 9 th and 11th May 2008, MMU proved its metal in R&D when two MMU research projects won a Gold and Silver medal for the categories of Multimedia and Educational Items.

Headed by Dr. Sim Kok Swee, the Centre for Image Processing & Telemedicine (CIPTEM) of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology (FET) won a Gold medal for their research project entitled “Canny Optimisation Technique for Creativity Image Colourisation” under the category of Multimedia. Other team members of the winning team include H.Y. Ting and L. Chang, M.A. Lai.

The second winning team was from the Centre of Learning Sciences (CLS) of the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) and they won a Silver medal under the Educational Items category with their research project entitled “Student-initiated Curriculum Planning, Visualisation and Assessment for Mobile Learning”. The winning team members are Dr. Lee Chien Sing (Project Leader) and Ms. Bahar Poursaeed.

Organised by the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS), ITEX ‘08 aims to be Malaysia ’s leading platform for universities, research institutions, individual investors and corporate companies to showcase inventions, new technologies and products. Participants were provided with opportunities to build network with other local and international inventors and scientists. It has, since its inception in 1989, attracted exhibitors from local and foreign countries, and has become a marketplace for investors and venture capitalists with intentions to secure investments, manufacturing and commercialisation opportunities to present their latest inventions and innovations.

The exhibition categories included aerospace & aviation, biotechnology, health & fitness, automotive transportation, educational items, electricity & construction, environment & renewal energy, multimedia, telecommunications and office products.
